Chapter Three discusses the rise of Buddhist influence in Taiwan. Chapter Four researches the strategy and response of the Taiwan church. The case study uses questionnaires to study the involvement of new Southern Baptist congregations, nine area Southern Baptist associations, the FNorth American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Billy Graham Association. The church planting project was successful with forty-nine of the fifty-one churches planted surviving. Evangelism, administration, finances, worship, Bible teaching, and leadership are all inter-related elements involved in making disciples of Jesus Christ. The twelve churches in Bogota started from a Bible study of ten people and use the name Aposento Alto, which means Upper Room. Biblical study and literature survey identified the nature, development, and practice of spiritual authority in Asia. Empirical study utilized leadership Emergence Theory (Clinton) to interpret qualitative ethnographic data and quantitative questionnaire data from researcher developed assessment tools. Three findings emerged: spiritual authority has both universal aspects and culturally distinct expressions; identity formation is central in spiritual authority development; and instructor 'fathering' of students had life changing impact. The research method relied on participant observation while the writer functioned in a high profile, influential position among the target group and included gathering survey data and historical statistics, and content analysis of extensive conference reports and archived minutes of decisions and policies. This project seeks to address and answer the question of how local churches survive and thrive in the shadow of the mega-churches. The focus of this project is to define the options those churches have in metropolitan areas. Options are limited to the strategies suggested by Lyle Schaller in his book, 21 Bridges to the 21st Century. From the time the first Christian church was established in Thailand to the present day, there has been little growth.  Most churches in Thailand remain weak and ineffective.  Some North American churches and the South Korean churches of the second half of the twentieth century have both prayed and fasted for their countries as a regular practice, resulting in an increased number of believers. Clergy crises in this project are defined as the various personal or ministry related problems that hinder clergy from being successful in reaching their career and family goals. Examples of such crises include ministry burnout, stress, marital discord, and spiritual weariness Surveys were distributed to 510 ministers in Roanoke and Richmond, Virginia to discover the most common crises and support resources among Virginia's ministers. The same survey was distributed to 50 ministers from the Roanoke Valley Ministers' Conference. A Series of five clergy support discussions were held during the conference's monthly meetings to address the most prevailing clergy crises.
