These values provide themes for a contextual theology distinctive to the region.  The paper looks at one northern Virginian congregation, which professes a classic, confessional theology.  It concludes that the congregation's theology and ministry are contextualized. They are viewed as often congruent but also dissonant with the congregation's received tradition. Social legitimation of identity, culture shock, loneliness, and Maslow's hierarchy of need are examined.  Images of the church and the message of I Peter are analyzed to draw implications for ministry within the Japanese situation. The resultant suggestions for ministry are evaluated by pastors. The pastoral concerns addressed through preaching emerged out of the economic crisis occasioned by a rapid decline in the heavy manufacturing industry of the Great Lakes region.  Pastoral care and preaching are brought together when the preacher who proclaims 'God is for us,' offers a vision that leads to growth in grace.  Such preaching becomes a form of pastoral care for the people of God. Ararat Baptist Church, Nashville, Tenn, by reclaiming its worship heritage.  Cultural terms such as 'Black' and 'celebrative' were defined along with the direction the project would take. Biblical, theological, and historical research were presented as foundations for Black worship enrichment in chapter 2.  Chapter 3 analyzed the congregation for the need of the project using social research.  A program of worship enrichment stressing heritage awareness was presented.  Chapter 4 evaluated the project as needed and successful. Textual research of the New Testament, particualrly the scenes in the Gospels where Jesus encounters women, is undertaken and a New Testament theology of acceptance is formulated.  A historical survey of stories of Japanese women who encountered Christianity in the 16th, 19th and first half of the 20th centuries is analyzed from the point of view of a theology of acceptance.
