The church has sought to meet this problem with a strong storytelling approach.  The writer's thesis is that storyteller training is important for improving teacher quality.  To aid in training, the writer has developed a workshop guide through which even unskilled storytellers can help each other improve their skills, especially with use of tape recorders. Foundation studies covered the Korean church school context and the psychological, theological, and biblical backgrounds of story. The functional analysis deals with the hypothesis that there will be no difference between growing and non-growing evangelical free churches in the Twin Cities as it relates to the vital signs. Random sampling was done on both categories of churches.  The data was evaluated using analysis of variance and descriptive statistical analysis. He demonstrates that many of the materials recommended by non-Lutherans are consistent with the teachings of the confessions while some of the 'Lutheran' materials are not. The author investigated four urban, neighborhood churches in accordance with the above factors, through questionnaires, statistical and historical records, and personal observation. Church attendance growth patterns are compared with Sunday School attendance figures for 1975 through 1979.  The nine Sunday Schools are compared to 'Thirteen Criteria for Growth,' compiled by the writer from Sunday Schools throughout the United States demonstrating numerical growth in the seventies.  Month-long Sunday School emphasis in October 1978 and October 1979 are carefully described, the results of the emphases are compared, and projections for numerical growth for the next decade are made. It reviews why and how amalgamation took place, and surfaces the need for an appraisal in response to new insights and perspectives.  In rural realignment, 'small is beautiful' and attitudinal and spiritual dimensions play an important part.  The report relates the work of the candidate with his Ministry Base Group and with people who experienced amalgamation: those whose churches were closed, those who were in the host churches, the ministers of closed churches, and the people who prevented their churches from closing.  Amalgamation was, for the most part, a negtive experience with a legacy of unresolved problems.
