It calls the churches to make this group a major focus from membership development in the 1980s and 1990s because of their vast numbers and their general attitude about believing without a felt need to belong to the church.  Two-fold research design: (1) narrative background to the generation's history and experience in the decades of the fifties through the mid-eighties; and (2) survey of religious experience and attitudes of 229 respondents, aged 25-36. Data from 59 questions analyzed by 10-church rank; religious types; six sub-samples; male/female; and born-again/not born-again. The goals of this project are: 1) to systematize some practical, life-related biblical principles that have shaped the scriptural understanding of present church members; 2) to develop a means of introducing new members to these principles; 3) to facilitate the orientation of new members to the biblical concepts that have influenced the church family; 4) to help new members identify areas of personal need and find initial solutions, visualizing the church as a resource for growth and development; 5) to provide small group learning experiences, giving opportunity for bonding, security, and friendship.  The validation of the project is supported by both theology and survey resources. Their changes were compared with pre- and post-test questionnaires to the changes demonstrated by a random sample group from the congregation.  The program included components of mutual selection and commitment, building of community, voluntarily chosen disciplines, a body of content, use of action and reflection, integration of body, mind and spirit; and the use of time. This project determines the value of these principles by reviewing and summarizing some theologians, including those of the Wesleyan or Nazarene tradition, identifying and evaluating the contributing factors, and determining by a case study of local Nazarene churches the value of church growth and decline principles. Asserting that God prescribes caring as a cure for diversity, the project attempted to teach the church to care and understand the identity of the people of God as a caring community.  Personal contact, sermons, classes and administrative plans all played a part. Story theology offered the theological perspective. Pastors in six Protestant denominations responded to questionnaires. Children from four Protestant denominations were surveyed. The data is described and analyzed.  Children in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) seem to have less membership identity than children in the Lutheran and Episcopal churches.
