When all three of these components become daily repeated experiences the believers are assimilated. This project has four main components. First, a biblical study intended to determine the biblical assimilation principles that effectually work in believers' lives. Second, a literature study to discover the theological factors that affect the assimilation process of believers into the functioning body. Third, two case studies of American leading churches through survey questionnaires and onsite interviews and observation. Fourth, the results of the studies are the functional factors in formulating the assimilation principles for the Chinese Bible Church of Jakarta, Indonesia. From the assimilation and church growth literature review and the biblical study ten significant assimilation principles were selected for this study. Each principle was present in the first century church (Acts 2:42-47) and in the life of Christ. The project director facilitated a four-week seminar with the deacons using small group study, large group discussion, and assignments outside the class to encourage group participation in the completion of the new member program design.  The deacons, then, engaged in leading a group of new members through a three-hour new member assimilation course. The deacons developed a greater understanding and awareness of the need for new member assimilation. This project defines a non-active member as one who chooses not to participate in the worship or mission of the church, yet retains membership in the body. Through personal interviews with twenty non-active members, the author uncovered the variety of reasons for their non-active status. Contrasting their responses, the biblical and traditional theological standards of discipleship and meaningful membership were examined. This project uses interviews with ministers and congregants in Unitarian Universalist churches of this size in Southern California but could be adapted to churches of other sizes and faith traditions. This dissertation project was designed to increase the passion for lost souls in the heart of every participant in an Apostolic Leadership Model. The thirteen participants visited two apostolic churches, met in monthly meetings for two years, and read about apostolic churches that reach unchurched thousands. Semi-structured interviews were used to measure the effectiveness of the study on thirteen pastors. A survey of the Deacons and newer members of the congregation, along with research in mentoring and assimilation, provided materials to the Deacons to design and oversee the program in the congregation. Results demonstrated that family ties and denominational loyalty are not enough. New members need supportive and caring relationships to stay connected to the local church. Those without relationships tended to become inactive or move to another congregation.
