In this passage God promised that if his people would humble themselves, pray, seek his face, and turn from their wicked ways, he would in turn forgive and restore them to a proper relationship with himself. The author believes that the term 'revival' has been misunderstood in view of the biblical meaning and needs to be redefined for the modern church. We can be renewed by focusing on the fact that God has sent us a Savior and being Christ's body here on earth. Churches can turn this concept into an action plan for their congregation by instituting a program that honors Christ's methods of discipling and the activities of the historical revivalists, appealing to the whole person: head, heart, and hands. John Wesley's class meeting system was successful because it focused on these elements. The Navigators are a modern-day example. A series of twelve sermons and interaction with a focus group in the author's church formed the immediate context in which the project was carried out. The process for this study included three parts: 1) a survey to determine the congregation's knowledge and attitudes toward personal testimonies, 2) a twelve-week period where personal testimonies were included in the Sunday morning worship services, and 3) a survey following the twelve-week period to determine how knowledge and attitudes may have changed.  Attendance records were also studied.  Attendance records may indicate growth. The project surveyed short-term mission trip participants to discover the spiritually forming elements of the trip. This data was used to form a strategy that was then presented to a panel of eight experts for their evaluation. As a result, the evaluation by the panel of experts validated the strategy according to issues that revitalize a local church.
