This dissertation describes the dramatic upheaval occurring in a church whose history and identity have been imbedded in a rural community since pre-Civil War days. Such upheaval and transition demand a process of reorientation that identifies vital elements for reconstructing an appropriate Christian ministry among a community in such seismic flux. Combining theological reflection, group interaction and 'acts of hospitality' provided a crucial first step in restoring the equilibrium of an old bluecollar neighborhood church and rekindling their sense of mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134911983255552,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:42:42.777Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:14:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:59:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"83b3d824-a51b-4aac-9ead-5b1773625b52","accessControl_ssim":["d9e32775-141a-4dc3-ac9b-cdf0d592a2fa"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The future of the church is now"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:14:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:01:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["047403df-40d8-4b38-ad14-e0d809105aaf"],"hasLease_ssim":["b6c02dcb-58ff-4f89-a8ab-892889950ea7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Emerson Abendroth"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["LeRoy S Haynes"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Church renewal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project asks the question, 'can a church have a corporate vision and will that vision revitalize them'? Secondary components, alterable, also were reflected in forty-five statements designed, analyzing synergistic 'spirit'. Three churches' leaders responded to the statements on the Likert scale. Consensus was achieved by Delphi technique. Goals for three months' improvement were set. Deacons need to be trained and equipped for ministry through a diaconate that is seen as the worshipping and serving core of the church. The koinonia of the diaconate through their prayer life, study, and learning together; and their commitment to the ministry of Jesus Christ in the church and through their own lives will begin a process of renewal for the church.
