Also, the Apostle John challenged the early Christians to 'Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest' (John 4:35).  This project is in direct response to these Biblical challenges.  The purpose of this project is to mobilize and train Christians with professional skills at the First Baptist Church of McKinney to use their own background as a tool in servant evangelism.  The project participants will participate in a five-week seminar in which the project leader will present Sjogren's concept of servant evangelism.  Servant evangelism is best understood when Christians perform deeds of love with words of love in adequate time with no strings attached. The project leader will also help participants find a way to connect his or her professional skills with the concepts of servant evangelism, and instruct them in the way to teach a one-day workshop in their area of expertise. This overburdens the pastor, withholds the privilege of serving from lay people, and inhibits the spiritual growth of the body. The purpose of this project is to equip lay people for ministry at Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church. The research will measure the effectiveness of the 'Equipping Church Model' from The Equipping Church Guidebook, by Sue Mallory and Brad Smith.  The effectiveness of the 'Equipping Church Model' was evaluated by using a researcher-designed survey that measured the congregation's understanding and experience of nine outcomes of the model. The research is an evaluation study in the experimental mode utilizing a pre-. mid-, and post-test design with no comparison group.  Significant change was observed in all nine outcomes from pre- to mid- and post-tests. Chapter 1 sets the stage for the project, giving attention to the setting and the background of the church. Chapter 3 also examines contemporary expository preachers. Chapter 4 outlines the project itself, and Chapter 5 gives a written analysis of the project's impact upon the focus group and the author's personal reflections. The research has determined the boomer generation is more likely to be involved in ministry in the local church or community when the ministry has meaning and purpose, along with the flexibility of time. The most often expressed sources of disappointment for both groups were higher expectations of laity, 'politics,' and administrative demands. Thus, we need to find ways to tend to the consequent spiritual needs of employees and their secular employing institutions. To explore how chaplains might meet these needs, the author locates the history and theology of traditional chaplaincies and workplace ministries socially and religiously, and concludes that a new generation of chaplains is required who will share common values of the world's great religions--care, love and compassion; will not evangelize or proselytize; and will serve all employees regardless of their spiritual or religious
