Four training sessions, three from the National Congress and one from Standard Publishing, a video tape, and sermons were offered to twenty participants. With a renewed understanding of what it means to be a covenant community, members of this church have begun to find a balance in giving and receiving care and supported the implementation of a particular model for care involving the training and organization of individuals in small groups.  Interviews and focus groups assessed the results of educational objectives and the implementation of the model. The methodology for this model of ministry includes personal, leadership, and congregational preparation through scripture and prayer, the formation of prayer groups, and practical participation in intercessory prayer. The biblical support for the project is established through examining the Old Testament inclusions of 'sojourners' and New Testament concepts of discipleship, spiritual gifts, and loving others.  Psychological factors of assimilation are established through Abraham Mallows' hierarchy of needs.  Church models and secular models are examined also. Chapter four sets forth the actual components of the project: membership class, membership interview, fellowship ministry, and a sermon series on 'Keeping People.'  Chapter five reveals that the membership class and membership interview were the most effective components of the project. Chapter one describes the church setting, defines the project, and provides rationale for this work. Chapter two examines Mal 1:6-2:9 and the book of Acts as representative Old and New Testament passages regarding pastoral leadership and the nature of the church.  Chapter three examines contemporary writings on leadership and the family church and presents a pastoral leadership style for such churches. Chapter four describes the intervention and testing used in the project: sermons and meetings, questionnaires and interviews.  Chapter five analyzes the results of the testing using both subjective and objective evaluations.  It also reviews and comments on the process followed in this project. The method of research includes opening and closing questionnaires and a three-phase approach of education (five session seminar), consultation (personal meeting with a ministry mentor), and mobilization (training and supervision for ministry). For the hypothesis to be confirmed there needed to be a demonstrable increase in both unity and clarity of vision among Vision Group members.
