The project illustrates how a stage 5 modal level of aspiration among church leaders can encourage a church to serve the needs of people as different developmental stages simultaneously.  Church leaders who can reliably identify an individual's stage of faith, and who speak multiple 'languages of faith,' can adapt their ministries of discipleship, evangelism and pastoral care to effectively meet each individual's needs. The workshop included an overview of the ministry need, four training sessions, a motivational sermon, and a series of post-test assessments. Research from an annotated bibliography provided the resources for development of lesson plans in order to equip the selected group. The equipping included sessions that both explored and defined the concept of relationship-driven ministry. Deacons selected were asked to participate in three sessions equaling seven hours. These sessions included study of both Old and New Testament passages of Scripture supporting the concept of relationship-driven ministry. The data were collected and analyzed from three workshops conducted to evaluate the pre and post understanding of participants pertaining to incarceration. The researcher's hypothesis is: effective deacon ministries in selected large Southern Baptist churches will define the role of deacon scripturally as a role of service, will have carefully constructed job descriptions for which deacons are trained, and will hold deacons accountable for their assigned roles and will recognize their service. A literature review examines the words and texts related to the diaconate and the practice of deacon ministry from throughout church history. The research procedure was case-study research methodology. Training included six instructional sessions with materials derived from research on key principles of goal setting and planning.  The first session contained the biblical and theological rationale for goal setting and planning.  Sessions two and three explored definitions, key principles, and processes of goal setting.  Session four examined planning programs and events from stated goals.  Session five included an explanation of the purpose statement of Woodridge Baptist Church from the pastor and participants who write actual goals for their ministry area.
