Russian church leaders need to have a significant voice in the development of appropriate training models that will prepare these lay pastors for ministry.  Russian church planters know a great deal about the nature of the new churches, and can offer insights about the kind of training needed to prepare pastors for them. This project examines the historical context, philosophical underpinnings and the practice of solution-focused therapy.  Additionally, it reflects upon this method philosophically and theologically.  In turn, it demonstrates the value of using this brief method of therapy in pastoral conversations. The research findings describe the types of contexts, people, relationships, experiences and activities that were significant. The goal of the project was to equip lay leaders with practical resources to enable them to serve as Bible study leaders.  The project participants were trained in the use of various Bible study materials to use with small groups.  Prayer walks were a vital part of the strategy project participants used in preparing the neighborhood to be receptive to a Bible study.  The results differed from what was expected; only three small groups were started. Chapter 1 identified the challenges facing the church and defined the project's purpose. Chapter 2 explored the biblical concepts of spiritual gifts with special emphasis on the implications of spiritual possession and its relationship with the individual personality. Chapter 3 articulated the implications of using the Enneagram personality typologies as a tool for liberating the spirit within the individual. Chapter 4 outlined the Spiritual Gifts Workshop used to implement the program. Chapter 5 evaluated the effects of the workshop within both a short-term (six week) and long-term (five year) framework.
