The institute was aimed at developing leadership potential and was designed to introduce participants to thirteen core competency areas considered important for successful church leadership.  Each program component, activity, and course was designed to strengthen the participants knowledge in one or more of these competency areas. Members of the vestry ask lay leaders to write statements about their ministries and their faith. They then meet and pray with each layperson twice. Then in a second session the vestry and leaders rewrite the ministry and faith statements.
