The description of said field test is the purpose of the dissertation.  The results of the tests showed that personal attention towards the trainees and behavioral objectives related task orientation of 'on-the-job' training were effective tools of church-planting motivation. The primary purpose of this project is not to argue the pros and cons of one method over another, but to gain ownership of discipleship principles by the leadership team of the church.  The project consists of twelve lesson plans developed around the church's ministry values.  The lessons were taught to the board of elders and a pilot group. A descriptive inventory was administered in the spring of 1991 to all the senior pastors of the 181 churches in the Minnesota District of the Assemblies of God.  The resultant data were analyzed for frequency distribution for all variables, and correlations were computed for all independent variables with each dependent variable. Hundreds of these congregations form annually in the United States.  One solution that can meet this demand is to discover and train God-led lay persons to become bivocational ministers.  Methodology and a successfully implemented plan are presented with support from theological and theoretical presuppositions of bivocationalism. The project argues that a key to skill's competence is attention to the basic communication issues of identity and anxiety/uncertainty. The project follows a praxis-theory-praxis approach.  It begins with the local theology and intercultural communication tensions of the church of Adelaide, South Australia.  These correlate with social perspectives and communication theories giving rise to theorems and face work that leads to fifteen skills.  A spirituality (from Mark's gospel) sustains such ministry.  Held together by the shared praxis approach of Thomas Groome, the project has four main methodologies.  One is Robert Schreiter's method for constructing local theology. Two are from the area of intercultural communication competence: William B Gudykunst's method of anxiety/uncertainty management and William R Cupach's \u0026 T Todd Imahori's identity management theory. These insights outline a paradigm for understanding faith which is applied in the areas of worship, religious education, counseling and mentoring. Faith as understood by the church has always been implicitly developmental but only in recent times have we made it explicit. The method of research included assisting participants to clarify their beliefs through a confession of faith workshop; engaging in action-reflection experiences before and after the retreat; and utilizing a theological reflection model to improve analysis and assessment of pastoral care experiences.  This project also included the design and utilization of two diagnostic tools.
