A curriculum was designed that consisted of six sessions on the biblical and theological bases for shared ministry.  A study of similar churches was conducted in four sessions.  Recommendations to increase lay involvement were formulated in the final two sessions.  The project was evaluated by the experimental and descriptive survey methods. The project director led 'Cults and the Family' conferences in three states utilizing materials he produced.  Conference participants were pretested and posttested to measure knowledge acquired in the conferences.  Postconference and follow-up questionnaires also were submitted to participants. Results indicate that: lay people can be effectively engaged in theological reflection; lay training committees can be significant vehicles for developing new partnership perspectives in the church and seminary; and that interaction developed within the process can have transforming effects upon relationships within the church, and can assist in refocusing the sense of calling for clergy, seminarians and laity. A lay task force developed the theology and strategy.  Implementation began with a fourteen-week seminar encouraging increased awareness and appreciation for personality and gifts as part of one's calling.  The MBTI helped people discover their personality gifts. Theoretical foundations include deontology, utilitarianism, absolutism, relativism, Michael Rion's framework from The Responsible Manager, and systems theory. The focus of this material is the specific impact of pluralism on the development of family values and the Christian community.  The research was based on a case study of a particular congregation and its perception of pluralism in value formation.  The conclusion was drawn that pluralism in its most negative sense has infiltrated most Christian thinking.
