There were two other groups of lay persons that either studied on their own, or did not study at all.  The study extended over an eight week period in an effort to determine how well persons who participated in the groups, who also contributed to the sermon preparation, understood the message and text that was used as the basis for the sermon. In a six year period of time, the Berean Baptist Church had replaced two ministers due to internal conflict.  In spite of church membership growth there appeared to be a need for leadership training.  Some members agreed to attend leadership development classes. He believed people were asked to serve in ways which were not in keeping with their talents and spiritual gifts.  He conducted in-depth interviews with 10 persons to determine their satisfaction in congregational service.  The author then developed a Bible study which included their talents as well as the spiritual gifts topic.  After the study each person prepared a survey form which was given to the congregational gift counselor. Biblical models and theological research prove the premise that news journalism is a valid Christian ministry.  Social research aided the author in measuring the effectiveness of the press service and in improving its ministry.
