The thirteen week project was implemented in three phases.  The project director assisted the participants in discovering, developing, and using their spiritual gifts in ministry tasks.  Activities included sermons, a retreat, training sessions, and field experience. Evaluation involved a pretest and posttest questionnaire, critical observation, and several interviews by the director. Implementation of the project resulted in recognizable improvements in the participants' ability to study the Bible. Its premise is God's intention that churches grow inwardly, if not numerically.  Purposes were to develop a methodology for renewal and growth in the target churches and establish stronger ministry roles for pastors.  The project, experienced by four churches, involved research of church and community data.  In a church retreat people studied the information, identified needs, established goals and action plans. Congregations received and approved the plans and pursued immediate goals for three months. A booklet of seven lessons was written for the 'Participant' newly married couple and another booklet was developed for the discipling couple who were termed the 'Host Couple'. The report uses a basic form of heuristic self-reflection coupled with group interaction to unearth psychological  and theological data. This data is then used to tell a mid-life faith story to show how images of God changed. Twelve marriage enrichment sessions were designed and facilitated.  Through research it was discovered that the biblical goal for marriage is a growing intimacy.  It was then assumed that this goal is achieved through responsible communication. Skills, taught in 'Growth Sessions', gave practice through group and individual processes.  Support through mentoring and evaluation was very important in encouraging persons in their growth.
