Western Pennsylvania Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study sought to identify a constructive pattern of clergy traits as noted by productive pastors to be important in the creation of a positive pastoral presence in their parishes.  A survey questionnaire addressing the issue of pastoral presence was administered personally to 101 randomly chosen ministers of the Western Pennsylvania United Methodist Conference.  Twenty-two of this group were given further opportunity of an oral response in an open interview.  Positive and negative trait patterns were identified by these pastors. It reviews the history and theology of the diaconate as the living symbol of the servant nature of the Christian Church.  The project uses andragogical principles of education in a series of monthly workshops.  The project shows that this model has potential as an effective method of training. In many local churches the concept of lay ministry does not include participation in the area of evangelism.  It is the author's belief that the ministry of evangelism is best achieved when a local church's outreach is shared by laypersons and pastors.  The main objectives of this project are to develop and lead a workshop which will enable church members to participate in the evangelistic ministry of the local church. The design of system analysis provided an excellent way of organizing and developing the project. The methodology was to use surveys, committee evaluations and committee reports.  The committee reports were presented to the church.  System analysis was used to study each ministry.  The result was a ten-percent increase in awareness of the ministries of First Baptist Church.  A similar increase was evidenced in the involvement of the members in ministry. Questionnaires to the community, church and other similar Southern Baptist churches were used to provide data. Information drawn from the results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator also aided in the development of the plan.  The concept of 'church types' provided help in determining goals for the congregations. Individuals discovered the unique needs of their congregation through guided lectures and brainstorming sessions utilizing historical, personal and biblical resources.  They then defined biblical understandings of New Testament church growth.  From this they developed strategies for growth that addressed their specific needs, and embraced these biblical insights.  The growth process, thus defined, involved and equipped participants for service in their respective congregations. It explores pastors' experiences with and their denial of loneliness.  The study explores both the necessity and the possibility of embracing loneliness within pastoral ministry.  The disclosive sample of five married, parish-based Lutheran clergy, basically through interviews and a nine-month long group seminar, expresses and engages experiences of loneliness in pastoral ministry.  It is discovered that loneliness is a real experience in pastoral ministry, often experienced and perceived in negative terms. It was a program developed by a group in the congregation under the author's leadership.  This program engaged a significant number from the congregation in a study throughout ten months of a year that involved biblical, historical, theological and pastoral aspects of Christian worship, and the development of a planning process for worship services. The first learning event describes the facilitation of a series of three training sessions in which skilled Catholic campus ministers came together to design a training and renewal experience.  The second learning event describes how the methodology and theory of the initial training sessions was carried out in a training and renewal program.
