A book was written and tested by surveying Christians in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI).  Results demonstrate evangelical families have frustrations with churches and ministers.  They also struggle with isolation, depression, fears, denial, family conflicts and concern over demons.  These who withdraw from Christian fellowship or think demons cause mental illness respond with lower test scores. To support the goal of each couple developing a new functional homeostasis in their marital and family relationships, the model of ministry included: MD's psychosocial screening; brief pastoral contacts introducing the ministry; a psychosocial/spiritual 'holding environment' to process major fears/concerns about body image, sexual function/roles; and, emphasis on community support. Although the efficacy of the pastoral care interventions is perhaps best judged in the context of each couple's relationship, data from pre-counseling and evaluation questionnaires was analyzed. All five males and six females indicated on follow-up questionnaires that sharing their emotions during the treatment of cervical cancer with a counselor was 'very important' or 'moderately important.' Adult children find themselves attempting to balance concern for their parents, their children, and their careers.  With little or no understanding of elder care before it is thrust upon them, adult children need to learn about the physical, emotional and spiritual needs that accompany the aging process.  This project revealed a wealth of information not readily recognized by caregivers. Four couples from the ages of twenty-five to forty years old participated in a monthly seminar for a period of five months.  The group also met monthly as a supporting group for four more months.  Several surveys were given to determine if there were any changes is attitudes, behaviors and actions of the participants. A survey questionnaire was used to assess the churches' and ministers' involvement in the pastoral care of adoptive individuals and families.  Survey results indicated that the ministers' and churches' involvement is limited and adoptive families have a need for pastoral support.  Consequently, as a model of pastoral care, the author recommends that ministers and churches incorporate an 'adoption ceremony' to embrace, celebrate and witness the family's adoptive identity. The result was obvious: each couple successfully formed a family group and helped to nurture the whole congregation.  Later, new missions were started. The church is to be intentional about doing this.  One way the church can accomplish this task is by targeting new families that move to the community.  This project outlines a strategy for making contact with new families to the community and provide them with information about the church.
