The project combined current research on marriage and family resiliency, theological reflection on the meaning of marriage and the call to ministry, and an experiential learning model. Soldiers were administered a pre-test/posttest quantitative design to measure the differences that came from participating in the four-week prayer project aimed at premeditating combat experiences. The project discovered improvements in spiritual and relational well-being based on the participant's responses, including greater knowledge of the biblical laments, increased positive relationship with oneself, God and others. This was a descriptive case study using data from four married military couples. Husbands and wives responded to questionnaires and an interview designed to measure the father's/husband's leadership style and family life satisfaction. Results showed a positive relationship between leadership dimensions and quality of family life. National Guard","Military chaplains"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Global War on Terrorism has necessitated the deployment of the United States Guard and Reserve forces.  Interviews conducted with soldiers deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom demonstrated that the transition from the civilian to military sector can be overwhelming.  This thesis will demonstrate how Christian National Guard and Reserve soldiers can, through a biblical framework, transition into the Army as their workplace. She studies the history of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, its causes and symptoms.  She interviews World War II Navy veterans of the USS Oklahoma City to better understand the trauma they endured and to learn about the faith lives of these men.  The author also interviews military chaplains and two military personnel who have recently returned from the War in Iraq in order to bring this study into the present. The study focused on the Gospel of John and the communication of five doctrinally specific messages, which were preached to a congregation of military men and women, Department of Defense workers, retirees, and their families.
