It used the understanding of older adults in a support group.  With the Council on Ministries, they identified a specific need and designed a tool of ministry -- a congregational interest inventory survey -- which was presented at a worship service led by older adults. It begins with background information regarding population statistics, physical, psychological, behavioral and spiritual characteristics and living situations of older persons. The author reviews sections of Luke and suggests insights regarding spiritual meanings of the texts for the two populations. She reports on 'Spirituality and Aging' projects with older persons from each population. She responds to the questions regarding spiritual implications of the characteristics of the two populations.  She finds that Scripture is meaningful to the two populations and that they benefit from projects like those she develops. Part II describes research conducted by means of convenience sampling using a 103-item questionnaire among 451 active Protestants and Roman Catholics fifty-five years of age and older in a midwestern community.  Factor analysis determined five dimensions of religiosity named orthodoxy, personal faith, treatment, satisfaction with life, and dissatisfaction with life. Comparison and correlation of factors and items found a positive attitude about life and more so about congregations.  Men want to feel more useful to their congregations. Objectives were to contribute material beneficial to the participants.  Goals were to educate participants on the issues of the aging, care options, and a process of ethical decision-making. As the past is reviewed the meaning of various situations and events can be reorganized and reintegrated into a more valid picture, giving new meaning to one's life and allowing the sense of ego integrity.
