I sought to fulfill three goals in this project: first, to research the field of palliative care, with a focus upon the incarcerated; second, to develop a curriculum to equip students in palliative care skills among the incarcerated; and third, to equip upperclassmen Leavell college students with palliative care skills among the incarcerated through teaching sessions.\r\n\r\nThe methodology for implementing the project included lectures, PowerPoint \r\npresentations, group discussions of skills, role-plays, and field practicum work. \r\nDiscussion scenarios stemmed from the Louisiana State Penitentiary’s hospice program, the Mississippi State Penitentiary’s palliative care unit, and Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I presented the material in six, sixty-minute sessions. The sessions aimed to instruct in three domains of learning: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. I administered pretests and posttests to evaluate student learning. Students also evaluated the instructor’s skills through post-session and post-practicum surveys."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["kstamant@nobts.edu"],"_version_":1855592722865324032,"timestamp":"2026-01-28T20:12:01.507Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-12-18T14:53:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-12-18T14:53:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a35a8009-e0f3-4a7e-9223-dd8aaf3641df","accessControl_ssim":["5d9c8090-ae44-40b2-8254-036379d7fbee"],"depositor_ssim":["kstamant@nobts.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["kstamant@nobts.edu"],"title_tesim":["Developing a Prisoner Reentry Ministry handbook for Church Leaders in Partnership with the City Union Mission, Kansas City, MIssouri"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-12-18T14:53:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-12-18T14:53:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fa9d5eaf-b296-47df-be0e-de6c86003e41"],"hasLease_ssim":["a341f52d-13eb-4601-9aa7-14e450db5ca6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["D.Min."],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dr. Mark L. Church leadership raises concerns about inviting individuals recently released from prison or jail due to the challenges they face in re-entering society. Church leaders report facing limitations in their resources to address these challenges. With the proper support and resources, the formerly incarcerated can make meaningful contributions to their communities and experience significant benefits from religious institutions. The research supported these findings, demonstrating the need for educational materials for church leaders.\r\n\r\n\"From the Cell House to the Church House: Comprehensive Prison Release\r\nHandbook” provided church leaders a tool to understand the risks and advantages of having justice-involved individuals and their families in the church. The inhumane treatment of prisoners and their appalling living conditions are untenable and require justice. This project will explore the ways in which John Rawl's theory of justice may be used to construct a corrections ethic in the context of jail and prison culture for correctional facilities in the United States. It considers the varied and complex challenges faced while attempting the humane treatment of those incarcerated. The tradition of social contract theory espoused in the writings of such political philosophers as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and more recently amplified in the work of the late Harvard political philosopher John Rawls will be explored and interpreted. This project creates a foundation for the creation of a corrections ethic grounded in social contract theory."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["https://www.proquest.com/dissertations-theses/constructing-contemporary-corrections-ethic/docview/1019056164/se-2"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873275308670976,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:52:59.900Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:06:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:53:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"87ccc8f6-e0e6-4479-b6b9-dfc1ee2e9b7f","accessControl_ssim":["cd33b8e2-aef9-49f1-8b5f-c6480db16f04"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Coming home : inward discovery for outward living after long-term incarceration; Howard Thurman's notion of community, religious experience, and the inner-life as tools for freedom and wholeness"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:06:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:47:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["403e38f8-3ce7-40f8-ac88-a2e771c48168"],"hasLease_ssim":["8b264333-77bd-4837-bb62-f5ac78c52531"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project looks at the origin of the American prison-industrial complex through the twenty-first century and its impact on marginalized people of color. There is robust research on programmatic needs coming out of prisons, such as financial and housing assistance and vocational training. Returning citizens also need help to deal with inward wounds and traumas of life and incarceration. Howard Thurman's notion of community, religious experience, and the inner-life offer a pathway to wholeness to those regaining their footing in society."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["https://archive.lancasterseminary.edu/items/show/1838"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873280334495744,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:53:04.694Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:04:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:52:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e03f66a4-1e99-4645-882a-2ca19b6184d7","accessControl_ssim":["e7cbfbfc-0d73-40d2-bf8a-f27a5f7a3fb3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["African American women facing reentry : the impact of race, gender, and faith after incarceration"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:04:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:46:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8c3135b6-5348-49a2-8893-fe7df5cc51ef"],"hasLease_ssim":["c171e676-bc38-4309-8bd3-ac5c5d7a64b5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2017"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. There is, however, a gap in the literature as it pertains to African American women. This project seeks to study the impact of race, gender, and faith on African American women when they are faced with the reentry process. Primarily, through their narratives, I am motivated to see if faith can be a resource for empowering them to move beyond the systems of inequality of race, and gender when facing reentry. Ultimately, this research project will provide recommendations to faith communities that will help them develop ministries and programming that will equip and empower African American women reentering the community after being incarcerated."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["https://www.proquest.com/dissertations-theses/african-american-women-facing-reentry-impact-race/docview/1902259253/se-2"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873255662551040,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:52:41.165Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":57,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
