In guided, intentional interaction and sharing of educational, worship, reflective, and fellowship experiences, culminating in a quilting project, these women form small groups as kinship units to build relationships. Culture and religion have imposed on women a 'necessity' to endure violence at home. Self-help groups seek healing and self-awareness for these women, based on their personal experiences and on an examination of the 'addictive' nature of Japanese society.
