The scriptural concept of the imago dei is examined, and the psychological and circumstantial rationale for ministry is established through research in domestic violence, depression, stress, and through experience in non-residential urban mission activities. The response is a proposal for the Schenectady City Mission to establish a habilitative residential program for four-six mothers with children. Using the case study method the writer describes the results of eight UCC churches in Allentown, Pennsylvania, involved in the clustering process. He also describes the effects of this covenant relationship upon the participating churches. Using material gathered from interviews with nine pastors of churches which match the description outlined in the thesis, this project culminates in a worship study offered to a similar congregation.
