Whereas, persons in our neighborhoods suffer a myriad of social oppressions, the church lacks in her persuasiveness to arrest such evils because oftentimes she too is caught in the deadly clutches of spiritual bondage. A seven-part sermon series, critical reflective workshops, and didactic experiences enabled members of the Christ Cathedral Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan, to actively participate and question self ills. Included are stories of formerly declining mid-sized congregations that have increased in worship attendance in the 1990's, and in which a contributing factor is the adoption of cultural inclusivity. Case studies were formulated from on-site interviews and demographic data in order to identify similar tactics used in the revitalization processes. Observation about the essence of the churches' vitality emerged.
