The model was derived using action research as the overarching framework and involved a strengths-based mixed methods research approach.  Additional participatory action research cycles involved one-to-one mentoring, group coaching and team learning sessions in order to facilitate behavioural change. It was hypothesized that increased accessibility to the Christian message of hope via media would produce acknowledgeable and measurable changes within the impoverished residents. Mixed methods of research employing quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews in pretest and posttest formats, data from archives, literature reviews, online sources and printed materials were used to measure results. One finding was a grave mistrust for the Church, but a great desire for Christ. This study was a qualitative study which gathered information through the use of interviews. The literature was divided regarding the matter of pastoral leadership. Some literature advocated strong leadership and other literature argued for shared leadership between the pastor and church officers. Measurement instruments were questionnaires, a focus group, and individual interviews. The response was positive. The sample is 89 Jesuit priests who complete a demographic data sheet, Maslach Burnout Inventory, and a Sources of Stress in Ministry Questionnaire.  Forty-three are from the rural group (experimental) and 46 are from the urban group (control).  The study tests three major research hypotheses by using the two tailed t-test for independent samples.  It finds that rural Jesuits are more emotionally exhausted and experience a greater sense of depersonalization than urban Jesuits.  There is little difference between the groups on personal accomplishment, physical symptoms, and days of illness. Rural Jesuits score higher on the critical items cluster of the Sources of Stress Indicator.
