Alongside this growth is also the fast growth of the church in Africa. The growth of cities could be rich fields for harvest for the church if it is able to use this growth as viable field for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most seminaries in Africa have not yet awaken to the challenge of training pastors who are able to tackle adequately the urban challenges that face the church in Africa today. In order to provide the desired training for pastors who will be able to minister in the city, this project is written with the view to developing an urban ministry curriculum for the Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) Mkar in Nigeria. During its 30 years of existence the church has received into fellowship only five individuals from the unchurched population. This project indicates that the church can be more effective in its outreach to the unchurched by developing multi-facit and contextualized ministries. The instrument used to collect data for the study are questionnaires, observation and interviews. The study reveals the following dynamics to be contributors to the church's inability to effectiveley minister to the unchurched: inadequate laity participation, ambiguity of mission and vision, outdated evangelistic methodology, under funded outreach ministry, insufficuent contextualized ministry and extremely low church involvement in the community. Hip-hop and folklores provide the language that facilitates the youth's understanding of the Bible in embarking on peer preaching. Liberty Square is a 54-square-block area of federally subsidized housing located in Liberty City.  Eight African-American congregations surround Liberty Square, but over 200 African-American churches are located in Liberty City.  Most of these churches have ignored the problems in Liberty Square.
