The project was designed as a microcosm of the United Methodist connectional and itinerant ministry. It included a district superintendent as a representative of the appointed hierarchy.  These clergy-persons represented a broad spectrum of types of appointments, race, gender and age.  Their formal theological training and theological orientation represented five different seminaries.  Approximately forty hours were spent exploring, testing and attempting to experience a Christian covenant community. From a dozen clergy support systems within the church, the author determined that the three most effective are: peer/colleague support groups, local congregations' pastoral relations committees, and the church's pension fund.
