Will these three often disparate pieces weave together into new understandings that can improve the pastor's own functioning? This project is designed to begin to answer these questions.Chapter One presents the history of the development of Murray Bowen's Family Systems Theory and the eight main concepts of this theory. Chapter Two will be an in-depth examination of my family of origin which will discuss the patterns of family functioning I discovered as I completed my family genogram, similar to a family tree.Chapter Three will briefly examine the history of one of the congregations I served in an attempt to discover the roots of that particular congregation's functioning. Chapter Four will be an in-depth examination of the biblical account of the patriarch Jacob/Israel.Chapter Five will integrate these three elements, my family story, the congregational story, and the biblical story, to demonstrate how the common elements that existed in all three of these stories led to a 'Eureka' moment for my life and ministry. Chapter Six, the concluding chapter will describe how other pastors, if they are already familiar with Bowen Theory and family emotional processes, may begin to apply the approach described in this paper within their own lives and ministries to increase their ability to regulate anxiety and self-differentiate within the life of the congregation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135617171587072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:53:55.297Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:52:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:51:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6a6a17c5-8134-4ba1-8d44-d527b205898b","accessControl_ssim":["5172ec95-3ad0-424f-b67a-0e91b7a1d632"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A call phenomenon: coaching, mentoring, discipleship, and modeling in the United Methodist Church (God in the mirror)"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:52:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:15:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8e380160-4117-482f-bf23-0885707d4046"],"hasLease_ssim":["6c484af3-d9b8-4884-84fe-96f73d81cd69"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The approach used to bring about justice has been in the form of protests, political activism and writing political representatives. However, Unitarian Universalism has not intentionally focused on the pastoral care needs of people in their congregations who are most wounded by injustice. This project describes an intentional approach to cross-cultural pastoral care that employs a new integrated multifactorial assessment model to support racial and ethnic diversity in Unitarian Universalist congregations, by calling attention to the significance of culture on the identity formation of individuals who are labeled by the dominant culture as minorities. Additionally, the project encourages Unitarian Universalist ministers and religious educators when providing pastoral care to consider the history, family, culture and religious/theological issues that inform, nurture and sustain Unitarian Universalists who identify themselves as persons of color or members of an ethnic minority group in the United States."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131757884473344,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:34.794Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:22:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:52:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"24ec7085-7ea7-4647-80a6-9505c4371101","accessControl_ssim":["600d746d-bd2b-4ca8-8280-451877e17be3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The teaching ministry of the church: a guide for pastors in preparing candidate for baptism and confirmation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:22:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:13:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7257bcea-16b9-4131-a293-0ed645950a12"],"hasLease_ssim":["19cbb24f-5677-48c5-9d02-b67e5b2e22f9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Frank Rogers"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"location_tesim":["Zimbabwe"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gift Kudakwashe Machinga"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Clergy--Office","Church history","Baptism--Methodist Church","Confirmation--Methodist Church","United Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project addresses problems of the United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe that have been created by a shortage of Christian education resources, both human and material. The Zimbabwean United Methodist Church is continuing to experience considerable numerical and spiritual growth. However, pastors do not have educational resources which are adequate to train new members and mature old ones. The preparation of candidates for baptism and confirmation is identified as a critical need and the project focuses on developing materials to be used by pastors in this preparation. The intent is to equip pastors with teaching strategies and tools (rather than lesson plans), and material is compiled from historical and biblical perspectives. Resources utilized include conversations with district superintendents and pastors, surveys of church members, and archival material accessed in Zimbabwe. The goal is to encourage pastors and draw them to embrace teaching in their ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131761579655168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:38.318Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:17:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:12:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0fb984ef-3cdb-4d84-9ce9-e38dfd6aebf2","accessControl_ssim":["dfc021cf-8b78-4877-8694-b2487499391c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The development of a strategy plan to assist forcibly terminated clergy in the Northwest Louisiana Baptist Association, Shrevepoert, Louisiana"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:17:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:34:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d0d2f69c-d46c-49eb-b0b1-7b305960c961"],"hasLease_ssim":["97f64c98-0b7b-42d4-8c8b-bc1898ca51d2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Reggie R Ogea"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Brian D Prucey"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Resignation","Southern Baptist Convention","Clergy","Strategic planning"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to develop a strategy plan to assist forcibly terminated clergy in the Northwest Louisiana Baptist Association, Shreveport, Louisiana. Zion Church on how they can work together in preserving the pastor's life so they will have many joyful days of ministering to the people within and outside the church. The author researched this matter through a combination of group meetings, questionnaires, and conversations with laity and clergypersons. The project ends with recommendations for Union Grove and future pastors on enhancing the pastor's health and the importance of the pastors accepting personal responsibility for maintaining their own healthy lifestyle. Although the project is focusing on the pastor and congregation of the Union Grove Church, the problem is extremely common throughout the body of Christ and can serve as a helpful tool to others."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127311858270208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:41:54.732Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:44:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:54:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"480c2dda-8326-49f6-bcff-a9f11e030d34","accessControl_ssim":["56ff36db-aaef-40d9-a3b5-ac2f320422ba"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Darkness approaching blessing: clergy dating within congregational setting"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:44:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:14:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b8d61038-4c34-48a3-85ba-0e71ffb0aa5a"],"hasLease_ssim":["ff32359f-bdc1-4e45-bcf2-7decde2e2920"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Skip Johnson"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joan C Martin"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Clergy--Sexual behavior","Laity","Dating (Social customs)--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project, through individual interviews, published resources, and personal research, strives to provide guidelines for clergy on how to incorporate and preserve a romantic, non-married relationship within a congregational setting.
