A small group of eight adult members were recruited from a rural United Methodist Church in Okemah, Oklahoma.  For eleven weeks they met with the pastor weekly for a Bible study experience that applied principles and techniques from neuropsychology and neurolinguistic programing. Through the survey and research method two types of questionnaires were formulated and developed. They were then sent to a randomly selected group of clergy to elicit information in the pastoral care ministry of the church. This use of multiple methods is intended to impress the reader with the urgency of this problem and the growing need for lay leadership.  Lay participation in ministry requires the encouragement and support of clergy and religious. Chapter 1 explains the communications process of message-sending and message-receiving.  Chapters 2, 3 and 4 focus on the three primary elements of that process: communicator, audience, and message.  Chapters 5 and 6 discuss the mass media.  The paper concludes with a theological perspective on the ministry of communications as an incarnational experience. In the United Church of Christ, the situation is complicatd by an historical no-intrusion policy called autonomy.  This prevents or at least delays any quality intervention.  The author uses his own experience, as well as other resources, to build a workable, creative model of strategies that is offered as a contribution to ministry.  It is at once therapeutic, but suggestive of preventative directions as well. Recent literature raises questions about indissolubility and the nature of premarital counseling for second nuptials. Regarding indissolubility, the Catholic priest must be pastoral and ecclesial.  Regarding pastoral preparation for second nuptials, the priest integrates a number of roles. Unique concerns in second nuptials are grief, guilt, building a new family, personal limitations of bride and groom, and spirituality in remarriage.
