The writer intended to identify and examine the reasons for church instability.  It was the writer's assumption that churches are stabilized when the question of authority is settled and high turnover rates are curtailed.  Therefore, a clear understanding of the pastoral role and responsibility are central to congregational health and stability. The foundation of understanding this question is rooted in his calling to lead the covenant community.  The minister is called by God not only to preach but also to serve as a leader of worship.  Many ministers surrender their role as worship leader to others and view their responsibility in worship to be limited to 'bringing the message'.  It is vital that every Presbyterian minister re-examine his role as the primary leader in worship as it is an important part of his calling. Considering the dimension of Brazil and its peculiarities, the focus was on the Sixth Conference. This conference was chosen because it is composed of several different cultures, history, geography, and leadership.  My intention was to evaluate the application of the GM project in the church by interviewing ten pastors and ten lay leaders in the Six Conference. The criteria for their selection included the following: (1) They are working in important churches in the Conference; (2) They are already applying the GM; (3) They are experienced in pastoral ministry and leadership; and (4) They were pastors and lay leaders in the churches of the conference before the GM was approved by the General Conference in Brazil. The project leader seeks to target both traditional and postmodern members of all ages and lengths of membership that will result in a wide cross section from the congregation. This will enable a balanced approach to the understanding needed to properly evaluate past history, define current growth and allow for creative planning for the future. This model will address both the traditional and postmodern cultures each with its own unique needs and desires. The project leader wishes for both groups to grow numerically and spiritually within the church. The challenge will be to lead both generations to appreciate one another and to allow that appreciation to lead them to cooperating together in the spirit of unity. The desired outcome of this research project if for both traditional and postmodern members to understand each other's various needs and to be willing to accept ministries that will meet the needs of both groups within the same congregation and in the community.
