It reports the method most frequently associated with John Carver, and considers also secondary literature regarding boards of directors and leadership functions in the church. While there are many suitable forms of governance and leadership structure, the author looks favorably upon the policy based governance method and reports how the method came to be recommended for the congregation he serves as pastor. The governance model is dependent upon a clear distinction between ends and means. Board level leadership is to be primarily concerned with ends. The pastor, as staff leader, is primarily concerned with means toward ends accomplishment. Conversely, an effectively managed pastoral persona can actually aid in the communication of a message.  This project explores the issue and offers strategies for effectively managing pastoral persona.  The project surveys scholarship on the subject of rhetoric, a study of celebrity preachers, and the results of two focus groups held to explore issues of pastoral persona with mid career pastors and with seminary students. The Zimbabwean United Methodist Church is continuing to experience considerable numerical and spiritual growth. However, pastors do not have educational resources which are adequate to train new members and mature old ones. The preparation of candidates for baptism and confirmation is identified as a critical need and the project focuses on developing materials to be used by pastors in this preparation. The intent is to equip pastors with teaching strategies and tools (rather than lesson plans), and material is compiled from historical and biblical perspectives. Resources utilized include conversations with district superintendents and pastors, surveys of church members, and archival material accessed in Zimbabwe. What pastors and other church leaders now require are theo-poetic forums, in which we might explore the words, images and metaphors that influence the way we do ministry in the postmodern world.  The biblical text itself yields an abundance of possible literary and mythic associations -- many of which have compelling resonance with those who feel estranged and alienated from the institutional church community.  This project offers analysis of truly 'raw data,' which does not include numerical gauges and statistical percentages. The most insightful data in the case of the Crossroads Presbyterian Church of Limerick, Pennsylvania, arises from the primordial creative capacity of those who respond to passages like Matthew 13:52 and testify, in word and in deed, to the Truth of the ever-elusive and unfolding Gospel Story. There are distinct preacher identities, and these can be determined as an outcome of a preaching survey. Data from a survey conducted among priests established three preacher identities: disciple, entertainer, and teacher. The study examines the formation needs for each identity while exploring pedagogics and methods, and presents a model for forming preachers using identity on the foundation that an understanding of preacher identity can result in better preaching. The Korean immigrants have experienced great growth since they first came to Hawaii in 1903. The Korean church in America has also undergone tremendous growth. First of all, this study presents the history of Korean immigration to the United States and the accompanying growth of the church in various stages from 1903 to the present. In addition, the study analyzes the results of a survey on what kind of leadership Korean American church congregation members desire. Many of Korean American church congregation members want the servant leadership model for their pastors because they have difficulty adapting to their new life in America. They suffer physical and mental stresses and depression arising from life as a minority group in a foreign land.
