The stewardship role is applied to building additions and renovation and the need for parish fund raising. The project leader seeks to target both traditional and postmodern members of all ages and lengths of membership that will result in a wide cross section from the congregation. This will enable a balanced approach to the understanding needed to properly evaluate past history, define current growth and allow for creative planning for the future. This model will address both the traditional and postmodern cultures each with its own unique needs and desires. The project leader wishes for both groups to grow numerically and spiritually within the church. The challenge will be to lead both generations to appreciate one another and to allow that appreciation to lead them to cooperating together in the spirit of unity. The desired outcome of this research project if for both traditional and postmodern members to understand each other's various needs and to be willing to accept ministries that will meet the needs of both groups within the same congregation and in the community. A program of monthly pastoral correspondences for the member's first year was designed to encourage biblically based responses in two-way communication with the pastor. This project sought present attitudes on this problem through 213 pastor and 313 layperson questionnaires sent to churches within the Cape Cod Council, and random samples of the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ and Hyannis Federated Church.  Seminars were held for the respondents. Major problems facing Crystal EFC upon the arrival of a new pastor in 1990 included lack of leadership, unclear spiritual identity, loss of vision, inward focus, lack of cohesive systems, and fragmented staff.  Major symptoms included declining attendance, financial deficit, internal discord, and low morale.  Each area was impacted by initiating alternative concepts and practices drawn from Scripture and espoused by experts.  Five-year results show substantial progress in each problem area.
