This project determined the most significant issues that pastors and families of forced exits need to address after they leave their church and during the time of transition. This project used interviews and questionnaires of leaders of ministries who work regularly with pastors of forced exits. Ten issues were identified as being the most important issues for pastors of forced exits to address. This project reviews the care needed and received by ministers experiencing a forced resignation and presbytery's provision of care during such an event.  The emotional, spiritual, physical, and financial dynamics of a minister experiencing a forced resignation are explored. The pastoral care provided by a presbytery for its member-ministers during such a trauma is examined in light of a model of pastoral support developed by Lloyd Rediger. The project director worked with the church leadership team to effectuate such a plan. It identified and addressed the strategic and practical issues created by the senior pastor's transition. It examines the call to ministry and its importance in carrying out the office of pastor.  It considers problem areas and obstacles in the life of a pastor that can cause him to be discouraged, disillusioned or to succumb to moral or financial failure.  The study consists of interviews with pastors, wives of pastors, district superintendents, denominational presidents and other ministry leaders. Additionally, the work draws from a host of written material on the various reasons why pastors leave ministry.  As a result of the study and interviews, it is concluded that most pastors have a number of perils that they must avoid whenever possible if they truly wish to remain in ministry and be effective therein. The best guideline to follow seems to be the instruction given to Timothy by the Apostle Paul -- '...keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist and discharge all the duties of your office' (2. Tim.
