It is continuing, meaning that it is an ongoing process throughout one's life; it is theological, meaning that it is motivated, guided and informed by theology; and it is educational, meaning that it is concerned with the theories and methods of teaching and learning.  This work explores the nature of seminary continuing education as it has developed professionally, drawing from records and anecdotes of the Society for the Advancement of Continuing Education in Ministry.  The focus then shifts to the concerns of the church.  Finally, the paper narrows to the context of the Moravian Church and its concern for continuing education, as well as a look at two historical figures that have played a prominent role in both theology and education, John Amos Comenius and Nicolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf. The denomination must move from marketing the services of its seminaries to continuing education driven by the needs of clergy.  Included is research by Barbara Wheeler of Auburn Theological Seminary of New York into the educational practices of 'innovators' and 'pacesetters.' Correlation is shown between the faith stage of clergy using the interview designed by James W Fowler and the type and style of continuing education they choose. It was based on a theology of church as body of Christ and ministry as the priesthood of all believers, a historical study of Wesley's class meetings, and an integral model of ministry. Questions were grouped according to personal information (sex, age, marriage status, family, income, temperament), education information (schools attended and feelings about their value, along with suggestions of what was good and what needed improvement), and church information (about one's current ministry).  Two conclusions are that pastors want seminaries to continue to offer the classics (Bible, theology), but to add more practical training. This study focuses upon the elders' 'personal faith, knowledge of the doctrine, government, and discipline contained in the Constitution of the Church; and the duties of the office' (G-14.0205). Presbyterians hold the office of elder on an equal basis with the office of minister of Word and Sacrament.  Based upon this equality, this training course reflects the concept of 'team ministry.'  An underlying premise for the course is that a church can only be strong as its leadership.  An examination is conducted of the biblical principles of leadership in both the Old and New Testaments. An exploration is undertaken of the ways in which the Presbyterian system of government embodies the principles of team ministry. Studies of the ways in which adults mature in faith are presented and analyzed.  The result of the research is a five-week training course for newly elected elders. This project explores the rationale and the biblical guidelines for the training of youth pastors.  It also presents a youth ministry concentration model designed for that purpose. Included is a study of the training of youth pastors in the Assemblies of God and more specifically at Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God.  Southeastern's prior effectiveness in preparing men and women to be youth pastors is evaluated through surveying alumni who graduated over a twelve-year period.  Others who are experienced in the field of youth ministry were asked to evaluate the youth ministry concentration model. His presupposition that personal pastoral development in the five areas of spiritual growth, personality, church growth philosophy, leadership, and cultural relevance would produce a corresponding measurable increase in pastoral effectiveness proved correct.  He executed the project with fifteen Tucson, Arizona, pastors from August 1991 to February 1992. The method of investigation included a theological study of the process and the obtaining of data from pastors and church committees through questionnaires and interviews.  The result of the study indicate that plannaging is suitable for use in a church, is helpful for administration, and that pastors lack confidence in the use of plannaging following training.
