These are that when a preacher and the persons listening to his or her sermon are of the same personlality type the response to the sermon by the listener will be more positive than when their types differ; and when a preacher and those persons listening to his or her sermon are of differing personality types communication is impeded. Data was gathered by using both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and eight sermons preached with the same congregation during one twelve-week period. A woman enters religious life with an identity, images and styles of communicating closeness or distance that were learned and internalized within the family of origin. These become conscious or unconsious means of identifying herself and her role as a religious and of relating intimately with others in a communal setting. Five guidelines comprise the primary criteria. They are: 1. does the course provide helpful tools for meta-communication; 2. does the course provide opportunity for interaction, lead to engagement, and allow for transformation; 3. does the course enable and encourage hope; 4. is the course synergistic; and 5. does the course provide for the building of trust sufficient to meet the level of threat to be experienced by participants. The project presents original research, national surveys, current bibliographic resources, educational and communication theories and a confessional-theological statement supporting television as a viable tool for the local church's mission and ministry.
