Using comparative theology method and ethnography, traditional Hmong culture and Roman Catholic dialogues within cosmology, anthropology, rituals, symbols, and culture calues to find connections, disconnections and lacunae within the Roman Catholic tradition, allowing for an expanded understanding withing Catholic theology and worship. Subjects were exposed to five different expository sermons in the two sermon forms and their responses to a questionnaire were collected the next day (N-1,000).  There was no significant difference between the sermon forms and the subjects ability to recall the big idea.  Narrative sermons are as equally effective as propositional sermons in recall. The research consisted of an examination of the order of salvation with biblical, theological and historical considerations, and tests measuring participants' understanding of the process with follow-up focus groups afterwards. This research thesis examines both biblical and Confucian teachings on four key concepts, 'human dignity,' 'suffering,' 'suicide,' and 'life after death,' pertaining to end-of-life issues. The focus of application is on patient autonomy, physician-assisted suicide, and decisions on withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment. The goal is to provide a biblical foundation to a pro-life position and to gain insight on what one needs to be aware of when making end-of-life decisions in a Chinese-Confucian context. Quantitative questionnaires, using R. Leon Carroll, Jr.'s, 'habits and virtues' of generative teaching congregations and Lois J. Zachary's 'mentoring skills,' and facilitated reflection groups enabled sixty-one Duke Divinity School students serving ten-week placements in small, rural United Methodist churches to describe their experiences. By many statistical reports this is the least likely group to be in worship on Sunday. There seems to be a disconnection with this group when it comes to corporate worship times and other church-related activities, although this group has many indicators that point to spiritual desire. The worship offerings, in particular, seem to be failing when it comes to attracting this age group. The project introduces a discovery model based upon survey, interviews, and observation that attempts to look at two recent developments in worship which seem to be attracting this 18-35 year-old age group. The two different worship styles were functioning at the two churches that were studied in this project. These two services, contemporary and modern multi-sensory, were used to compare and contrast the effectiveness of attracting and producing a level of participation within the targeted age group. The two most important findings were: first, the contemporary worship service was of greater importance in the lives of the surveyed groups than the multi-sensory worship service. Yet the surveyed group from the multi-sensory worship indicated they were much more participative in the life of the church than the contemporary group.
