This project focused on leading that church through the adjustment stage, the fifth stage of the conflict cycle. Chapter 1 discusses basic assumptions of church conflict aftermath.  Chapter 2 presents inside perspectives on conflict: the historical conflicts that helped form the EFCA; the contextual problems of this church; and a theological, theoretical, and methodological approach to understanding conflict aftermath within a church.  Chapter 3 presents a dual chronology of time and subject matters of what was done to help this church. Southern Baptist churches have a special vulnerability in conflict situations, in that the polity by which they operate precludes outside ecclesiastical intervention. The purpose of this project is to suggest that churches place in their constitutions and bylaws an agreed-upon-in-advance procedure for conflict management and resolution.  By processing the potential for conflict and developing procedures to address it, valuable time and precious fellowship can be conserved. Ten sessions were designed to be used as a curriculum in the local church which will encourage study, dialogue, and challenge the individual participants.  The ability of the author, project associates, participants, and the church to handle conflict productively is documented.  It also describes how the persons involved were enriched by developing skills and confidence in conflict management. Considerable attention is given in the manual to biblical examples of conflict and to cross-cultural factors that influence the way conflict is dealt with in other cultures.  Sources of material included books, articles, and DMN courses on conflict management, inter-cultural negotiations, and cross-cultural management. I also drew from my personal observations as well as those of my associates serving with GMU International. The manual has five major sections.  They are designed for a series of five seminar sessions of two to three hours each. Church leaders who are on the cutting edge of ministry must learn to accept and deal with conflict in a positive manner.  This is the thesis of the project.  An initial theology of conflict is developed and is compared with secular theories of conflict currently having influence.  A rationale for the material is included as well as test results from the first group to use the manual. The biblical model of conflict resolution between Aramaic-speaking and Greek-speaking Christians provided inspiration for the project.  A questionnaire was designed to survey and gather data on conflict management of Chinese-born and American-born Chinese church leaders.  Next, training sessions were developed with six areas of emphasis.  They were conducted at three Chinese churches in different geographical locations. The project researched and utilized intentional interim and conflict resolution methodologies.  It included interviews with most members of the congregation, seminar training, and a weekend planning retreat. Issues of change and power were encountered.  Original research was conducted into conflict resolution styles in the biblical narratives.  The narrative of the project was written up in modified case study format.
