Conflict is conceptualized as a process moving toward actualization of social entities when the conflict is properly managed and toward disintegration when the conflict is poorly managed or unmanaged. This conceptualization is developed theologically, biblically, historically, and sociologically. The conclusions drawn are: 1) conflict is inevitable; 2) a systematic process is the best way to deal with conflict; 3) a mangement process can produce productive results from conflict; 4) lay people can be taught this process; and 5) resolving conflict can move individuals-institutions toward actualization."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134316417253376,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:33:14.800Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:53:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:05:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7feb9600-b56b-4f72-8920-336258f2ab16","accessControl_ssim":["6055aa38-c8b3-4994-a25b-55c5e10fd666"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Parish conflict resolution"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:53:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:54:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0dbc711c-6032-44e9-a16f-ecbd823657f6"],"hasLease_ssim":["af8d510f-f050-43f5-bf12-f09754904626"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Geoffrey R Lilburne"],"year_tesim":["1983"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenneth E Story"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Christian education of adults","Conflict management","Society of Friends--Discipline"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was designed to learn about the management of diversity and the conflict it raises and to integrate the learning into a Society of Friends (Quaker) Meeting. With a shallow understanding of Christian peace, shame suppresses conflict. This project considers how Paul reclaimed his honor and opened the door to a healthy resolution to conflict in Corinth. A one-day event was offered to clergy stressing that with divine providence honor and shame can mobilize persons in conflict to healthy resolution rather than destructive separation. It proposes that students use peer mediation in a Scriptural based program. The project uses previous evaluations of peer mediation programs and results of a questionnaire sent to all Lutheran High Schools in the United States. The research shows a need for scriptural based peer mediation. This includes a peer mediation workbook with sample forms and letters. In response the paper espouses ways to implement a successful peer mediation program.
