The programs were designed to create a sense of understanding, compassion and desire to reach out to victims. This qualitative study used pre- and post-survey data, community events, workshops and designed worship services to increase the awareness of the virus. The author has examined two large Chinese churches in the greater Vancouver area with a set of questionnaires that is designed for the comparative analysis of distinct cultural conflict patterns.  The project finds that there are certain common cultural traits and core values that are root causes of the ministry conflict. The model outlines the procedures, through questions, exercises and reflections that will help a liberal church, which has already affirmed the right for homosexuals to participate fully in their congregation, to uncover the diversity of opinion that exists within that congregation. That diversity may include those who do not agree with every aspect of homosexuality and this model is designed to life that up and promote dialogue about it. The research method incorporates library research, interviews and questionnaires. The design of the model uses theology, current transformational models, the church context where the research is done, and reflection. The premise is that empathy, as presented by the psychoanalytic school of self-psychology is a caring and compassionate way for a pastor to be in relationship with his or her ministry setting and models the essence of the gospel message. The author attempts to answer this question through a case study of his congregation, which offers a perfect example of a small rural church that suddenly finds itself surrounded by unprecedented growth and needing to make decisions that call for major changes. The metaphor 'church yard' represents the entire area of a local church's life.
