After identifying barriers by circulating a survey instrument among Korean-, Spanish-, Vietnamese-, and Chinese-speaking groups, the project develops and implements a process that includes Bible studies, sermons, skits, and two major workshops. Participants responding to opinion surveys at the beginning and end of the process indicate positive changes of attitudes when compared to a control group that does not participate. Due to cultural and linguistic barriers, variances in child-rearing philosophies, and the negative Han (wounded feelings) of a Korean wife, such marriages face greater challenges than monocultural marriages. Important elements of the new model include a collaborative style in course design, cross-cultural insights for evaluation, student learning agreements, and conflict management. Previous SDA evangelism in Jamaica has successfully reached poor and working people, but it has been ineffective in contacting and attracting the upper classes. The project suggests that 'intentional ministries'--any social ministry, instrument, or program designed to make a deliberate impact within the local community--can be used to contact upper-class people and make personal evangelism possible.
