It is this author's conviction that it is time for the church to claim the theological premise that crafting eucharistic practices of friendship across cultures provides a vision of faith that will address racial divisiveness and build bridges of reconcilitation in society. The author wrote a workbook that served as an instrument to facilitate daily reflection upon ways the Eucharist inspires practices of friendship across ethnicity and social class. The author conducted an eight-week project which included multi-cultural worship, sharing of stories in small groups, and participation in Eucharist. Evaluation of the project included the use of surveys and interviews. The author concludes that this approach to multi-cultural ministry facilitated reflection upon Eucharist and helped participants learn more about the importance of forming friendships with Christians of diverse ethnicity and economic class based upon practices of holy communion that shape the formation of Christ-like friendships."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718444648628224,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:34:17.424Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:06:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:52:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3e85278b-71ed-466c-a5b9-73ed7b1810ae","accessControl_ssim":["163f9c85-cc2a-49b2-8fde-ebb50575a530"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Translating unexpected news: cross-cultural partnership as the means for contextualizing the gospel in a North American setting"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:06:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:56:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["79432442-a44d-4124-8890-53c7373e7bde"],"hasLease_ssim":["a5bbac1d-d774-4671-a416-00b0bba08328"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carlos F Cardoza-Orlandi"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Grant A MacLean"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Cross-cultural studies"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this paper is to consider how the partnership between North American churches and the churches of non-Western peoples such as the K'ekchi Mayan people of Guatemala might generate an extended cross-cultural dialogue resulting in the discovery and appropriation by North American churches of a more vigorous and complete understanding of the reign of God.
