First were the many social issues that arose during group discussions, especially from students newly transplanted to the Boston, New England, area from other countries and how these issues impacted their personal spirituality. Second was the difficulty of some of these ministerial students in relating American methodology reflected in the reading material, with the overall cultural attitudes of their congregants who had been raised in other nations. The research material, as well as the information provided from the methodology utilized through systems thinking seeks to inform those of us desiring to develop a more diverse understanding in pastoral care in an increasingly multicultural society. The various literature and causal loop diagrams assisted in examining the spiritual, social, and emotional data needed to strengthen Mentored Ministry students in their pastoral roles in church and within their community. The resulting information revealed a clear need for those attending the class sessions and Peer Theological Groups to recognize a broader scope required in pastoral care as ministers within their various church and para-church positions. The final student comments indicate the impact of specific reading material and lectures over the course of the fall and spring semesters of the years 2000-2001."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130907663400960,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:39:03.960Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:50:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fe27239e-ea2a-4587-b8d3-451b12af0ac9","accessControl_ssim":["cccac47f-0161-4e65-93f9-3527f750581f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Cross-cultural/cross-racial appointments: the case of the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:50:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:23:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["58db84f9-b767-4680-aeac-df8e76f0e7bb"],"hasLease_ssim":["e53cfcc7-5be5-4b13-a324-fbca1e4c494e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["C Anthony Hunt"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. I will use the pro-active research method because it intentionally engages in qualitative research while working toward transformation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127152420192256,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:39:22.681Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:37:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:09:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b91e8d8f-999e-40a8-899d-750295d30e32","accessControl_ssim":["d3df191f-d276-4a7b-933e-725e47ae2ddf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a cross-cultural leadership communication and ministry plan for pastors in Metropolitan New York Baptist Association"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:37:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:27:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["00f86cd1-6836-474c-afd2-7bd4d7b576e0"],"hasLease_ssim":["ba31479b-282b-4ac0-a1f9-1e46baf49dc0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William Caldwell"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Louis Meren Ao"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Metropolitan New York Baptist Association","Baptists"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["'Developing a cross-cultural leadership communication and ministry plan for pastors in Metropolitan New York Baptist Association' is a project to encourage Metropolitan Baptist Association to become aware of the need of ministering to the whole community. The project will seek to develop awareness for pastors in order that they can minister cross-culturally in a more effective way. Developing this strategy will involve all the Fellowship Directors who represent the ethnic groups and geographical regions in the Metropolitan New York Baptist Association, and selected pastors of the local churches in the same association. Each individual, along with the project leader, will have specific responsibilities to accomplish in a five phase plan. Phase one will establish the priorities of the plan. Phase two will consist of presenting the strategy for implementation in the local churches. Phase three will consist of presenting the strategy for implementation in the local churches. Phase four will involve reporting the ministry experience according to the given principles (strategy). Phase five will involve reporting the ministry experience according to the association. The process will be reviewed in order to enhance the ministry in the association for the present stage of ministry and for the years to come in dealing with cross-cultural ministry in the Metropolitan New York Baptist Association. The project was successfully completed. The recommendations given to the Association was tabled in the Executive Board meeting to implement when the new Executive Director joins the office in February 2004."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132812924944384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:09:20.959Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:15:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:49:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5b899c29-3ba2-4d13-8714-090c5d894290","accessControl_ssim":["288cffb3-2e59-4f7f-8a71-4d724381a083"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Moving toward diversity: a case study of Roberts Memorial United Methodist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:15:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:49:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6fb7cf79-5cd9-4fd4-9d2c-ca7ee07d2333"],"hasLease_ssim":["a5fbb79d-0f7c-4b0c-b4fa-aa35aace4118"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The author argued that the church must adjust to its new demographic context and begin to reflect the changing demographics in its membership in order to survive and to reflect the inclusive nature of God's kingdom. Also, the author believes the pastor is the major change agent in leading a congregation toward membership diversity. The case study method was employed by the author. The author suggests that what has been traditionally termed and understood as the 'Black Church' is not a sufficient descriptor of the experience of African, African-American, and Caribbean people coming together as one community of faith. Thus, the project seeks to lead the congregations to embrace their cultural diversity using a new paradigm: 'The Africultural Church'. The term 'Africultural' is used to describe a multiethnic faith community of persons of African ancestry, which strives to be wholly Christian and multicultural, yet celebrates its Africanness. It is understood that issues arising form ethnocentrism may challenge this new community. Specifically, there may be cultural distances and stereotypes that must be overcome to effectively engage in ministry. To this end, the project explores the cultural consciousness of the three congregations with respect to worship practices, mission and ministry, and lay leadership; best practices derived from these Africultural ministry settings; and the role of the pastor in leading the congregations to more faithfully embrace their cultural diversity. A model of community transformation is also proposed, which uses Bible study and a study circle process to raise cultural consciousness and promote diversity. Liberation theology, John Wesley's notion of a 'catholic spirit' and personality development theory are theological and theoretical foundations for the model. Using this model, the project seeks to identify held stereotypes and cultural conflicts in one congregation and move that congregation toward the affirmation and wider embrace of its cultural diversity. From that experience, further implications for pastoral leadership and ministry strategy in Africultural communities are drawn."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714856870346752,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:37:15.852Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":115,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
