When we know that God has suffered what we are suffering, we are able to be healed in our traumatic confrontations, and to grow in faith through this suffering, either to a new wholeness of life, or to live completely to the end in the face of death.  The thesis was tested in marriage counseling, in care of the dying and bereaved, and in unemployment counseling. The project sought through pastoral care, demonstrated in an intentional small group process, to promote theological reflection about meaningful living.  The desired effect was to know the fact of one's death to be an impetus for life. This report outlines theological and psychological bases for the concept of anticipatory grief.  Methodology entailed determination of issues the participants wanted addressed as well as delineation of the mechanics of the phenomenon of anticipatory grief.  The project showed a positive correlation between a constructive sense of anticipatory grief and a sense of meaning for life. This is the psycho-spiritual basis for pastoral care ministry. Achieving relationships, boiling down the problem, and coping actively are the phases of a crisis counseling paradigm.
