Over the 8 weeks of the course students were exposed to biblical teachings on divorce and remarriage and how these teachings tend to be organized into biblical positions. While students were not compelled to embrace a particular position, they were encouraged to draw definite conclusions based upon teachings. While the emotional pain and trauma of divorce make many pastors reluctant to preach about it, Jesus makes clear God's intent for marriage as a lifelong covenant of fidelity. Lutherans properly approach divorce from the perspective of an 'evangelical ethic,' demanding a proper balance of Law and Gospel. Any sermon on divorce should be specific, biblically honest, and accessible. The project director of missions conducted a four-day divorce recovery seminar.  Biblical materials concerning divorce were presented by the director.  A psychologist and a medical doctor spoke on the psychological and medical problems resulting from divorce. Three enabler training sessions followed the seminar.  The enablers led discussions in three discussion/support group sessions.  Ongoing discussion/support group sessions were scheduled. The dissertation analyzes the five passages of the New Testament on the subject, reflects on centuries of Catholic practice and tradition, states current church law, presents the damage of folklore about divorce and remarriage, and describes support groups.  The conclusions are: 1. a divorced Catholic is never prohibited from receiving communion; 2. a divorced Catholic remarried outside the church could be admitted to the sacraments without an annulment; and 3. a second marriage can be sacred in the Roman Catholic Church without an
