Yet many today neglect it. This project provides one means of seeking to address this problem. This research measured the value of training people to study the Bible, specifically whether developmental training in personal Bible study methods would improve student attitudes toward their personal Bible study. It also measured whether the training would improve student habits in their personal Bible study. Following the development of the training course and the curriculum to be used, the research was designed to utilize a survey questionnaire constructed with a Likert-scale of response options. It also included multiple-choice options, as well as reverse scored items. The survey data were gathered for two class groups and a non-trained control group to increase the breadth of sample survey and comparison. The survey was used as a pre-test and post-test within the class groups, but only as a post-test with the control group. Additional qualitative data were gathered through focus group feedback from each class group and instruments that utilized open-ended questions, specifically -- a Bible study inventory that was used as a pre-test and post-test and a self-reported post-course evaluation form. This study found that the training was effective in improving the habits of Bible study for one class group. It was also effective in improving student habits and skills of relating the Bible to one's life and world for one class group. The research showed the training was not effective in improving the attitudes of students in either class."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131220980006912,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:44:02.762Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:24:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"217915a3-d677-4fa4-b3f2-0f9f5f146486","accessControl_ssim":["987d3af6-9ea6-404a-b84d-7c184246d366"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Design \u0026 evaluation of a training manual to instruct children in basic biblical doctrines"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:44:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:07:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2f4e5b17-04da-4a9b-9f9e-777fb4fd5ea1"],"hasLease_ssim":["a373bbe2-e62a-4167-94f5-f1b7aeea3a69"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Andrew B Seidel"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert W Oliver"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Evangelical Free Church of America","Dispensationalism","Catechetics","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Design and evaluation of a training manual to instruct children in basic biblical doctrines"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation project sought to develop a dispensational catechism to teach children biblical doctrine. A parent's training manual for teaching their children was written based on the Evangelical Free Church of America's doctrinal statement. Thirteen parents were recruited to test the manual with twenty-six children between the ages of five and twelve. Each week's lesson included Bible study, Scripture memory and catechism memory work. A Scale of Readiness was also developed to help identify the levels of readiness of the student prospects. The project was used as a pilot project at the Arlington Chinese Baptist Church, co-sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Eleven chapters, an introductory session, and two assimilation sessions comprise the project material. The chapters were written to address frequently asked questions among Chinese students. Chapter titles include: How to know that God exists; The spiritual capacity of human beings: the dark side of humanity: the problem of sin and suffering; The God who cares; The dilemma of the human situation: the choice of work and grace; Who Jesus is; The way to salvation: one or many; From sage to saint: it is a blessing to be a Chinese Christian; A simple choice with huge consequences: making an existential decision; A life transformed and the beginning of a holy life; and Nurturing in the community of faith."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131445007220736,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:47:36.411Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:30:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:51:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1d582dc0-72c0-468f-9bda-c0aeda8f0882","accessControl_ssim":["5f9afd35-2da4-4b0f-83c4-5c57c9d900c4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Leading First Baptist Church, Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to become outwardly focused through the implementation of an evangelistic prayer strategy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:30:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:59:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["98c5d804-3a5e-43c2-8595-fb1bc6485c68"],"hasLease_ssim":["b55c318e-5c30-4074-8d09-9174778adc65"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thom S Rainer"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tracey G Jines"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Sunday schools","Evangelistic work","Finney, Charles Grandison, 1792-1875","Oklahoma--Pawhuska","Edwards, Jonathan, 1703-1758","First Baptist Church (Pawhuska, Okla)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project seeks to lead the participants to become outwardly focused through their participation in an evangelistic prayer strategy.
