The project director researched numerous sources in order to develop a six-session curriculum for teaching mentoring skills. Experts in the fields of mentoring and curriculum development reviewed the research and curriculum throughout the project. The project director equipped thirteen men at Ginger Creek Community Church to mentor future leaders. He held the workshop in the spring of 2010. This article explores the translatability of certain biblical leadership patterns across different cultural contexts throughout church history. They are classified as Supernumerary (SN) ministers. In a pastoral setting where the congregation is small and people resources are limited, the pastor and congregation benefit from ministries developed and implemented by Supernumerary ministers. The author researched and recounts the Biblical and historical record of elder practice, including 19th and 20th century Session minutes, elder manuals, and historical records demonstrating this shift. Traditional didactic classroom instruction is not always sufficient, because it does not provide an opportunity for elders to apply what they have learned. To compensate for this lack of experiential learning, role-play was incorporated into elder training in a particular congregation, resulting in the conclusion that role-play is a useful training tool in certain situations. This report explores the differences in modern and postmodern cultures and, using theological and biblical foundations, outlines specific characteristics of leaders necessary to lead in this postmodern time, as well as offers similarities pastors and other church leaders will exhibit in their postmodern leadership in their congregations. Research for this report included conversations with three pastors and five elders over three two-hour sessions. Of these two, the office of elder is the one principally charged with the leadership of local churches.  The identification and selection of said elders is a key challenge that this project seeks to address and facilitate.  The project execution saw the creation and implementation of a workshop in two congregations focused upon the biblical standard of an elder's qualifications, roles and tasks. It was found among Baptists from the seventeenth through the mid-nineteenth centuries, and is experiencing renewed interest among Southern Baptists today.  The project model shows how a typical Southern Baptist church may transition to plural elder leadership. It evaluates biblical and historical foundations, and then explores current Southern Baptist leadership practices. The researcher created, implements, and evaluated a training program, which discussed spiritual development and Christian leadership. The researcher studied the biblical basis for and selected writing about leadership, PCUSA documents, and programs on training elders. Finally, the researcher conducted a phone survey to other PCUSA churches to discuss how they train their elders. The researcher's program was implemented in 2008.
