This thesis was tested in a workshop with the elders of Sparta Baptist Church. Three inventories evaluated their level of faith, love and hope, respectively. These were accompanied by teaching about the triad's implications for holistic formation of church members and ministry focus. It is a study of ten Brethren churches in Singapore. Using the case study method, the study considers the process undertaken by the churches in identifying potential leaders, encouraging and preparing them for leadership, and appointing them to assume full leadership responsibilities in the local churches as elders, thus ensuring leadership continuity. The analysis of the research was synthesized into twelve significant observations. Category sets of governing policies and elder selection and screening materials were developed. It examines recent publications and conferences that addressed this Southern Baptist governance issue.  Using the case study method, the researcher sought to identity and order the specific factors that influences these two churches in their adoption of plural-elder-led congregationalism. This project presents a practical elder leadership model developed and implemented by Olathe Bible Church in shepherding its congregation.  The model was derived from biblical investigation and case studies of large, multi-staff, elder-led churches.  The scriptural findings and case research were applied to create a relevant, practical, visual model of shepherding leadership for use in elder-led churches. Drawing on the theology of ordination in the Wesleyan and United Methodist traditions, the project engaged a small cohort group of ordained elders in the California-Pacific Annual Conference in a year-long conversation on the spiritual, theological and practical issues of leading the United Methodist Church in this period of transition. A quantitative research method (written surveys and focus group interviews) was used for this study. It was determined that influences shaping members' ideas of leadership include scripture, Stone-Campbell principles and practices, workplace experiences, and American political structures. The extent of thee influences varied according to a member's age, gender, and length of association with the Stone-Campbell movement. The project found that when persons are provided a foundation to begin the process of discernment of call and spirituality, they will be equipped to better serve the Christian community.
