Chapter one defines the structure of the project, the purpose and research methodology. Chapter two traces the beginning of evangelical mission in Nigeria from its beginning in 1850 up to 1997, and analyzes its methods, strategies and philosophies. Chapter three examines the socio-economic and political influences that affected Nigerian Christianity, dividing its history into four epochs. Chapter four looks at the ecclesiastical influences of the Nigerian church and its missions. Chapters five and six spell out the recommendations for improving the mission program. The author recommends a spiritual-gift based mission and discusses the need for theological education, missionary training, and a new understanding of partnership along with mission pitfalls to avoid."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["55f1694e-f3f1-43ea-8ca9-da9a2899defe"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129607246708736,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:18:23.786Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:58Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:48:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d46013bf-49bf-4e60-aa4c-b9dbec8983e4","accessControl_ssim":["713edd8d-69b7-4433-ad0f-a12a8d0054d7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Church planting apprenticeships: developing laborers for the harvest"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:12:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["80efda55-6bdb-4825-b82f-67c55501ae0f"],"hasLease_ssim":["61af4a05-3cae-4ac4-af43-db72cb1d6216"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald C Guthrie"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Edward Winship Powers"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Presbyterian Church in America","Evangelistic work","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Church of Jesus Christ has been given the Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). The strategy that has proven to be the most biblical and effective in accomplishing this task is that of establishing or planting churches that are reaching people with the gospel in cities, towns, and villages. However, it takes called and gifted men to plant these churches and the reality is that 'the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few' (Matthew 9:37). The purpose of this study is to discover how the Northern Illinois Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America can develop a growing pool of qualified church planters in order to increase the rate of successful church planting in that presbytery. Is there a way for this presbytery, as well as the Church at large, to increase the number of men qualified for church planting so that it might more effectively fulfill the Great Commission and respond to the growing needs and opportunities that exist in America, a nation that is in serious spiritual decline? It is the finding of this paper that a Church Planting Apprenticeship Program built around the biblical model of mentoring that Jesus demonstrated with His own disciples has significant potential for developing this growing pool of qualified church planters. Such a program might also make possible, by God's grace, the ignition of a church planting multiplication movement that will allow the church to reach the increasingly large numbers of unchurched and unbelieving people among all the different people groups of America. In addition, it would provide a built-in training and support system for church planters and would allow the local church to become more directly and personally involved in the enterprise of world mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131527222919168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:48:54.818Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:37:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:26:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9037884e-61b4-471f-848c-e43693c37462","accessControl_ssim":["d3d8b35b-0ca5-4c25-b0e3-f21e8bf66cec"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Reaching Generation X: a case study from Sydney, Australia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:37:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:21:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["46775fc1-97cd-4ee8-841d-45f64edc43b3"],"hasLease_ssim":["1b6c6e48-dfca-430f-ab41-2373e3adbfad"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Keith Suter"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Pamela Ann McNally Anderson"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Case studies","Evangelistic work","Generation X"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper examines how to attract that segment of Generation X that does not attend church, yet remains open to the possibility. The churched subjects rated most elements on the questionnaires higher than the unchurched."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134620903800832,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:38:05.182Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:32:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:32:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5dbed0e2-5408-460a-9ccd-4000b64576fa","accessControl_ssim":["853a0fd3-ccdb-4e7f-b756-7ef5e884b553"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The priesthood of all believers: a church planting strategy for an every-member-in-ministry congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:32:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:53:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["01b66f5d-bb1b-4c62-9458-bdd289694152"],"hasLease_ssim":["fa927b1c-d18c-49a9-9db6-0d430063df9d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["J Ellsworth Kalas"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["R Keith Turman"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of the proposed research is to test eight principles believed to be necessary for implementing a church planting strategy, which seeks to empower all members of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church to be actively involved in Christian ministry. Two years and nine months after the first public worship service, a researcher-designed questionnaire was mailed to all ninety-eight members of the church, and a random sample of twenty-five members was selected for interviews. The major findings included: 1) spiritual gift discovery establishes a necessary theological foundation and increases involvement in ministry; 2) evangelism is an agenda that increases involvement in ministry; 3) the pastor's role as equipper empowers involvement in ministry; 4) small groups provide an arena that increases involvement in ministry; 5) vision casting communicates God's vision that motivates involvement in ministry; 6) investing in people through training produces involvement in ministry; 7) need-based ministries inspire involvement in ministry; and, 8) a commitment to membership increases involvement in ministry. Clear evidence emerged in the study that indicated the implementation of the eight principles resulted in a church membership actively involved in ministry. Seventy-nine percent of Hillsdale's members are serving in some capacity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134252965822464,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:32:14.289Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:32:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:45:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1c9c01e6-2f1d-417b-9a14-02d29a9718e6","accessControl_ssim":["d41e1237-739e-462a-88e4-08d6544850ad"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Who is my neighbor? The model is worship, spirit and mission. Any church must offer its worshipers a quality worship experience, i.e., clear readings of the Word with understandable and inspired proclamation. Worship must be conducted in a manner that the presence of God will be felt by the worshipers. Then the people must be sent to do God's work.
