Once they became personal evangelists, they would lead their classes to be more involved in evangelism. The author researched the importance of the pastor's role in personal evangelism.  He discovered evangelism was more effectively learned experientially.  He researched two basic fears in evangelism: incompetence and rejection.  He studied basic apologetics and researched how to overcome distractions in evangelism.  The conclusion was the teachers were more equipped as a result of the project than before it. The fields are ripe for harvest but also infested with scientific, secular, cultic and occultic problems.  There are also competing saviours, different gospels, syncretistic approach to religions and perplexing theological controversies regarding signs and wonders and holistic ministry.  Hence, it is important to heed the call of David L Larsen that the 'evangelical in-roads are at risk and must be protected.'  To do this, an evangelist must have a clear biblical perspective of the call and nature of his commitment.  The changing world view of his own multi-religious mosaic against the Christian world view must be understood, in order to effect a total transformation in experience, and its expression in the cultural and social context of the converted. Also of importance is the virility and vitality of character and spiritual aspect of the evangelist. Dedicated Cameroonians sacrificed their lives for the sole purpose of the expansion of the gospel.  Very often they are forgotten in the shadows of the missionary.  This study focuses attention on the life and ministry of five dynamic Cameroonian evangelists who took the gospel from the coast of Cameroon back to their homes in the interior of the country. Historical and anthropological methods of research are used to secure information.  The majority of information was available from secondary sources.  This study enumerates ten strategies of evangelism implemented by the evangelists and supported by Scripture. Our shift from the right to the left socially and theologically has had a profound impact on the use of the intinerate evangelist at the end of the 20th century.  A survey instrument was used to determine the validity of this thesis.  The survey did not prove this thesis but did indicate the declining use of the itinerate evangelist. Evangelism is discussed from the two perspectives of General Evangelism and In-House Evangelism.  General Evangelism concentrates on witnessing to persons who are not members of a particular Christian religious body and to persons who have not accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour. In-House Evangelism focuses on involving persons of the local church in the total life of the church.  Evangelism in prisons and hospitals is also discussed.  The project emphasizes the personal preparation of the individual evangelist in terms of mental stability and spiritual strength.  The project is evaluated from the three perspectives of the participants, the class leaders in the church and the DMin candidate.
