The emphasis of Chapter 1 is on the influences and results of anti-intellectualism in the theological milieu of a holiness/fundamental tradition.  Chapter 2 focuses on selected hermeneutical concepts that should be addressed if one is to have an enlarging view of Scripture and its use in preaching.  A clearer understanding of the inspiration of Scripture is examined from a cultural-historical point of view. In addition there is a lack of understanding of the 'essential tenets' of Reformed theology.  Through preaching and teaching, this project attempts to educate the congregation of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Clarksburg, Pennsylvania about the Book of Confessions and the Reformed tradition. Fourteen sermons are preached, based on the sections of the Heidelberg Catechism that deal with the Apostles' Creed.  A thirteen-session class on the Book of Confessions is held.
